The Tale So far...
Hey folks, Groovy here!
So, yesterday I said I was going to be hanging up streaming, or at least, I won't be holding myself to a strict schedule, and instead I'd be looking into doing some game development.
Well. all things don't always go to plan, and today was no exception, after getting back home late after a driving lesson, I sat down to do some C# tutorials (Go Unity!) and got all hung up over a little puzzle I picked up at work which required a bit of custom html and javascript to fix.
Well, I mean, it was programming related, so technically it counts right? Well I had a look at that and sorted my thoughts out in terms of the data I was trying to get from the webpage into Google Tag Manager, and I think I got what I needed (simple if statement really), however, it seems my ability to Preview my container has no disappeared, so I'm not sure what's gone on there. I wasn't even aware I could stop that from working. None of the code in the preview is committed, so the website is fine, but...yeah...never had that happen before, and I've written a lot worse javascript and html in those boxes, trust me.
So anyway, I decided to unwind with some Heroes of the Storm (bad idea) nad ended up getting demoted. I guess that's the issue when you're playing solo. You're kind of relying on each of the other 4 peoplet o play ball alongside you and pick a decent team composition and bring you the win. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do about people not communicating or prepicking their heroes, so you really are at the mercy of the masses sometimes, and tonight was my night to feel their boot stomp down on me hard, knocking me down a division and souring my mood somewhat.
Think I'm going to lay off the Heroes and stick to some single player games for a while. Game's started becoming a chore, and one that I don't enjoy at that.
I'm hoping I can get into some of the dev tomorrow, or at least make some sort of progress on it. I've been thinking a lot about what makes a good game the past few days, and I do have a few musings on the matter that I think make a lot of sense when I stack them up against successful games that have been, and currently are.
I'm pretty convinced that the best games come from simple ideas, and simple ideas are easy to build on, and I think that will probably form the basis of my game development ideology for now. At least until I have an idea of what the heck I'm doing, and I'm not just following tutorials or fumbling about in the dark trying to figure out what on earth is going on.
That's all for now folks. I'm gonna go head off and cool down after Heroes, and probably not play it for a week or so.
Groovy.
