Hanging up Streaming? Starting...game development?
Hey folks, Groovy here.
Now if you're following this from the start and you see this, don't worry. I'm not done with streaming forever, I'm just giving it a break for now, or should I say that at the very least I'm not going to develop a strict schedule for it. Probably keep it as a thing I do as and when I want to and not put any pressure on myself to grow it.
On the other hand, I feel it's about time I get my head down and start looking into something I've been trying to do for a long time (If you've read the title you can probably guess). Yeah, that's right, I wanna get my feet wet with game development. It's something I've always had an interest in, but not being terribly amazing at programming and psyching myself out of it, I've never really given it a shot, or when I have, I've looked at it for a week or so, not even written any code per se, and given it up. Shelved it, along with the rest of my ideas likes writing a book, keeping up with a blog (Hey, I'm trying) and other such ambitious things, or, well, at least ambitious to me.
So, this blog might not be taking so much of a different direction to be honest, it will probably be the same old thing, and I'm hoping to get some game stuff out about current games on the market, and ones that are already out. Games I'm playing, all that kinda stuff, but now, you'll be have all the joy of seeing my musings on game development and all the fun that entails.
So, I got inspired to work on a game after listening to a podcast some months ago called Game Design Zen, I listened to all of his podcasts, and I gotta say it really inspired me to get stuck into game development. The guys words made sense, and they were really encouraging. Start out small, start out with a simple idea and be prepared for it to probably be a bit naff as it's your first attempt. analyse what you've done, learn from your mistakes and go again. Sounded good enough, sounded easy enough, but it's still taken me a couple months to get in the right frame of mind to give it a go.
I haven't programmed properly in a long time, so I'm starting from the bottom, I'm learning C# and I'm working in Unity. I've somehow managed to rope a friend into it, and we're hopefully going to be working on it during the week (at least 3 times a week I hope, with weekends off unless the fever takes). It's gonna be an interesting adventure, and I'm looking forward to it. I've always been interested in the Game Design side of games, as I'm not massively technically minded. I can write a decent story I think, but my technical ability is lacking for making games, and art? I can't do art for toffee, but this will be a great chance to learn.
It will probably be a disaster, but you know, it will be my disaster (and my friends) and it's going to be a kickass journey, and it can only get better from here on out.
I'll be back tomorrow, not sure what I'll write about yet, but we'll see how the day goes.
Take it easy folks!
Groovy.
