Indie Surprises - Dead Age

Hey folks,

Groovy here, and I know I said I'd have something out soon about Resident Evil 7, and that is definitely still happening, but, in the meantime, I've been playing some other games, where my intention was to start playing Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. As always, that didn't go to plan, and I couldn't bear playing Witcher 2 having just finished The Witcher.

So where does that leave me? Well, first of all, I'd like to talk about a game I just got from the Humble Spooky Bundle called Dead Age.

For those that don't know Dead Age is an interesting indie game that is based on surviving the zombie apocalypse. Luckily, you find yourself as part of a camp of survivors, and the game plays out from there.
The story of the game is firstly, non-linear, in that the sequence of events that make up the story can happen at any time, and secondly, the story is delivered in a comic book style fashion, with the story delivered alongside some nicely drawn scenes. The fun part of Dead Age is that you don't know what element of the story you're getting when you load up another game to have another crack at it.

Next is the combat. The combat is turned based like the old school Final Fantasy games, and you can have up to 3 people in your part to go out scavenging for supplies, or for general missions. This in itself is interesting, as you effectively end up managing all the survivors in the camp. Not everyone can go out on a missions, and you of course need to create weapons, armour, scavenge rations, find tools to make the weapons, and finally, you have to guard the camp from people trying to steal your things, and the people with guns are a lot more dangerous than the zombies.

Honestly, I've found myself having a lot of fun with this game. The game has permadeath, so if you lose a camp member or mess up one of their missions, they're gone for good. Now of course, you need as many people as you can to keep your camp ticking over, and to scavenge for supplies, keep your supplies safe and just ride out the apocalypse, so it's important you keep all that in check, but the added threat of permadeath just makes the game that much so interesting. Mix in the rogue-lite elements of the game, and the non-linear delivery of the story, and you have an interesting game that keeps you coming back for more.

I'm gonna sink a few more hours into this game and see if i can get it finished, but I would definitely recommend you guys picking this up. At the minute, you can pick it up off the Spooky Humble Bundle for $1, and if you wanna pay some more, you can get a whole bunch more games if you want to stick some more cash up there. Oh, it's also for charity, so why not chuck $10 on there or something, it's for a good cause!

I was gonna talk about Destiny 2, but I didn't want to bore you guys, and honestly, I didn't get the chance to play it that much, but maybe another day.

Thanks for reading,
Groovy
