He's back! - Writing Schedule, The Burea & The Witcher.
Hello folks, Groovy here!
It's been a while, I know. I promised I'd have some information on The Bureau: XCOM Declassified out by Friday, but, you know. Life happens. I don't mind, it's nice to have something this fluid, I don't feel tied to any particular time schedule (although I'm trying to stick to one a day where possible) and I kinda take the time out on the weekends to do stuff like live life or play some of the games i intend to write about!
So the people waiting for the XCOM stuff, it will be coming (not sure how many of you there are) but mainly for my own interest I'll be looking into analysing some of the gameplay features and characters available. I have about 25% of it written about now, so I'll be looking to get that sorted shortly.
What have I been doing I hear you ask?
Well, I've finished The Bureau now, so I've been tasked with completing a new game, and one of the games that has been evading me for....many many years now is The Witcher. A phenomenal RPG that was released on PC back in 2007...wow. The game will be 10 years old in October, that's insane.
Anyway, the game is based off a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski (who I believe doesn't gain any money from the games as he didn't think games would take off). In it, you play as Geralt of Rivia, one of the few remaining Witchers left in the land as you embark on your quest of monster-slaying and romping throughout the country of Temeria. This game features it's own unique combat system that mostly relies on you timing strikes correctly (honestly, it's a bit slow after a while, but it does the job) and was also one of the earliest games to adopt moral choices that would result in significant story changes throufgout the game.
This game is a very good Western RPG, and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to pick it up. You can usually pick it up for less than £5 at a variety of websites, and, for a game you're more than likely going to sink 40+ hours into, you really can't complain at that price. At the minute, I'm probably over 50% of the way through it, and I like to think I'm doing a fair amount of the content present in the game. There's a lot to see, a lot to do, and a lot of monstery to slay, and yes, I probably will end up writing about it at some point, however, I'm going to have to get this XCOM one out before I finish this.
Anyway, I'll be looking to get some more writing done on The Bureau this week, where I'll be talking about the squad based system specifically, and how that feeds into the general gameplay and combat. In my opinion, the story and characters were pretty mediocre, and the dialog wheel the game had was mostly pointless, however, it did throw some interesting quirks at you towards the end of the game which I'll cover.
Anywho, thanks for reading folks, and I'll probably be posting on Thursday now.
Cheerio!
Groovy.
